Help - Advanced Search

The advanced search form will help you create a more specific search in the Publications database. First, specify your search criteria. You can search by author, title, key numbers, and one or two ANL divisions. Documents in the search results contain the author, title, and key numbers you specify and at least one of the ANL divisions you specify.

Second, restrict your results on the basis of the date a document was cleared, the type of publication, and the version of the document. Specify dates by using four-digit years. You may select multiple publication types or versions. Each document in the search results will be in the date range you specify and will be the publication types and versions you chose. For example, if you enter 01/01/1999 for the date and choose Journal Article and Conference Paper from the publication types list, then all the documents in the search results will have been cleared after January 1, 1999, and will be either a journal article or a conference paper. If you also select Full Length from the form list, then the documents in the search results will have been cleared after January 1, 1999, will be the full length form of the document, and will be either a journal article or a conference paper.

Third, choose to order the results set. By default, the documents in the search results are in no particular order. The choices for sort order are: first author, date cleared, first ANL division, publication type, rank, title, and version. You can sort the search results in either ascending or descending order. Sorting by rank will list the documents by how closely they match your search criteria, with the documents that are the closest at the top of the search results.

Finally, select the Search button to start the search. The more complex your search is, the longer it will take.
